Application Developer Engineer

Overview of the role:

This role is key to the successful delivery and evolution of our innovative products and services. As a rapidly growing business we want someone who can help us drive our technical function, working with the whole team on modern and innovative Market Research Solutions.
Reporting into the Principal Engineer, you will work within our growing development team. You will be a people person with the ability to communicate at all levels of a business, both internally and externally. Key responsibilities include the creation of high quality, secure and performant code, architecture of new developments, and helping to instil best practice across the team.
Experience of Ruby and Ruby on Rails are key as well as a strong working knowledge of Javascript development libraries such as Node, React, Angular, Vue or an another alternative.

Your focus and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the architecture for our products and services. This must focus on enabling them to scale, be performant and maintain security at all times.
  • Work with the developers to ensure we are meeting coding standards and best practice.
  • Work closely with the product team to qualify ideas and provide due diligence for development requirements as well as high level estimates that help to build a long-term roadmap.
  • Refinement and presentation of planned architecture as well as offering advice and leadership on new architecture to follow when tasking out user stories.
  • Work within the development team on the development of new products, features and services.

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Knowledge in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, preferably from version 3.2 and above.
  • Strong knowledge using Javascript development libraries such as Node, React, Angular, Vue or an another alternative.
  • knowledge in MySQL and the development of highly performant queries using the Entity Framework.
  • Experience developing code for highly available business critical software hosted in public cloud.
  • Demonstrable skills around secure coding standards and practices.
  • Demonstrable experience of agile working practices, Continuous Integration, GIT Flow, modern development patterns and practices.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience developing micro services architecture applications and scalable cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
  • Competent in Front End Develop including HTML, CSS, JavaScript & JQuery, Bootstrap, SASS.
  • Development in Responsive Web sites, native iOS and Android technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of Non-Functional Testing, AWS, Node JS, Jira, MongoDB, RSpec.
