Junior Full-Stack Engineer

Overview of the role:

Reporting into the Principal Engineer, you will work within our growing development team. You will be a people person with the ability to communicate at all levels of a business, both internally and externally. Key responsibilities include the creation of high quality, secure and performant code as part of the wider development team.

A good grounding in Ruby and Ruby on Rails are key, as is a working knowledge of MySQL combined with Active Record.

Your software skills are valued as highly as your engineering aptitude. We take a ‘deliver as a team’ approach to our engineering function and operate using a well-established agile framework. You must be able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills with a good basic understanding of agile delivery frameworks.

Your focus and responsibilities:

As a junior member of team, we will invest in you with a clearly defined onboarding period that leads to the creation of a customised Learning and Development plan. Day to day you will work in the following areas:

  • Refinement and presentation of planned developments as part of the refinement of change. This will involve risk assessments and estimation sessions when your experience is sufficient to feel comfortable doing so
  • Working as part of an agile development team in the Day to Day development of our products and services across our flagship insight platform and wider strategic products in the data engineering space
  • Take collective ownership for the platform as a whole, responding to its needs for security, stability and availability
  • Executing on your Learning and Development plan in order to increase your value delivery and move towards a Full stack Engineering role

Essential skills and attributes:

  • Exposure and experience in full stack Ruby on Rails
  • Exposure and experience of MySQL
  • Experience in Front End Develop including HTML, CSS, JavaScript & jQuery
  • Excellent team working and communications skills

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge using JavaScript development libraries such as Node, React, Angular, Vue or another alternative
  • Knowledge of developing solutions for public cloud
  • Experience in iOS and/or Android development frameworks
